When the Local Ten Care Force first met 16-year-old Amanda Blake in February, she was happily up and about. But after undergoing a few weeks of chemotherapy to treat her bone cancer, the side effects had severely weakened her body. "It makes my throat really sore and shut so it makes it hard to eat and drink and talk, but I do my best," said Amanda. Care Force visited Amanda and her dad, David Blake, last week to deliver some good news. Blake, who's a single dad of three, was struggling to make ends meet after he left his job as a carpet installer to care for Amanda. A gift from Local Ten viewers eased those worries. "They donated a total of $2,000 to help you with your rent payment," said Care Force Reporter Mayte Padron. "Oh my God," replied a surprised Blake.

For Amanda, the news crew gave her a gadget that, unbeknownst to them, turned out to be on her wish list. "It's a Nintendo DS for you to enjoy," said Padron. "I saw this little girl pull out her Nintendo DS and I said, ooh it's so pretty, I want one," replied Amanda. Amanda checked that item off her list and a few more. Thanks to the JUNTOS Foundation, which reaches out to families affected by cancer or heart disease. A group of men and women members brought Amanda a brand new laptop for her to complete her schoolwork online, all the software programs she'll need, and an iPod. "I am in debt to a lot of people right now," said Amanda. "I owe you guys everything. You are all amazing people, the best." Care Force would like to thank the Jessica June Children's Cancer Foundation for also helping and putting them in touch with the Blake family.
